SASC Survey
The survey has identified SASC has achieved many aspects of its stated aims and identified opportunities for development.
calendar04/09/2014

Executive summary from SASC 2014 survey

The survey has identified SASC has achieved many aspects of its stated aims.  It is successful in implementing the training recommendations of the DfES working party (2005) in advancing standards in SpLD assessment.  This has led to successful outcomes for many students, in the promotion and accreditation of CPD, and in the evaluation and updating of relevant assessment tests.  77% of respondents find SASC useful.

Opportunities for development have been identified in the survey.  These highlight the need to achieve greater understanding and awareness of the work of SASC to a wider audience.  In particular, focus should be placed on increasing public knowledge of the involvement of SASC in advising government, local authorities and educational establishments and in the provision of a forum for sharing good practice.  Other themes which have arisen from the survey include the concentration of training courses in London, the need for a greater focus on Numeracy and IT in assessment, concerns relating to the different renewal process for Specialist Assessors and Educational Psychologists and perceived procedural discrepancies regarding the renewal of practicing certificates.
