SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate Qualification

Courses Leading to SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate

The following courses will qualify successful candidates to apply for SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate from Patoss, Dyslexia Guild or the British Dyslexia Association. This list will be updated as more courses are approved by the BDA Accreditation Board for AMBDA or by SASC as meeting the training requirements for SpLD Assessment Training.

  • University College London
    Certificate in the Diagnostic Assessment & Management of Literacy Difficulties [from 2000 through 2004]
  • Dyslexia Action Postgraduate Diploma Specialist Assessment and Teaching for Literacy-Related Difficulties Level 7 validated by Middlesex University (from 5 April 2022).

  • Dyslexia Action MEd Professional Practice in Dyslexia and Literacy Level 7 validated by Middlesex University (from 5 April 2022).

  • Dyslexia Action Professional Diploma in Dyslexia and Literacy level 7 accredited by Middlesex University (from 1 July 2017 to 31 July 2023).
  • Dyslexia Action Professional Certificate in Assessment Practice for Dyslexia and Literacy accredited by Middlesex University (from 1 July 2017 to 31 July 2023).
  • Dyslexia Action Postgraduate Certificate – Specialist Assessment for Literacy-Related Difficulties Level 7 validated by Middlesex University (from 4 April 2023).

  • Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations 
    OCR Level 7 Certificate in Assessing and Teaching Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia)
  • Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations 
    OCR Level 7 Diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties [candidates must complete as a minimum Units 2, 3, 4 and 5].
  • University of Northampton Postgraduate Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties and Inclusion;
  • Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre Level 7 Diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Dyslexia/ Specific Learning Difficulties
  • ATS + undergraduate degree + Patoss AAA or PAPAA or CCET or CPT3a or ETAAC + Patoss/ University of Chester- Diagnosing Dyslexia: Assessment Practice and Reporting (DDAPR).

NOTE RE ATS + CCET + SASC APPROVED MODULE ROUTE

We would advise candidates trying to plan their specialist assessor training that there are modifications to the ATS+CCET route to an APC which require additional  training to include synthesizing theory and practice in assessing SpLDs to qualify for an assessment practising certificate. From 31st March 2011 assessors combining ATS with CCET will have to complete an additional SASC approved module.

SpLD Specialist Teacher Training Courses 

Follow this link [BDA Accredited Course List] for a full list of courses accredited by the BDA for specialist teachers seeking to gain qualifications suitable for

  • AMBDA [Associate Membership of the BDA] which would qualify for appropriate membership of an SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate or
  • ATS [Approved Teacher Status of the BDA] ATS on its own would not qualify an individual for an SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate.
